Admission Requirements - Degree Programmes
FIRST DEGREE PROGRAMME
POST-SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL CANDIDATES
BASIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
The Minimum Admission Requirement into the University of Cape Coast for SSSCE / WASSCE applicants is aggregate 20.
Candidates must have passes in six (6) subjects with overall aggregate of twenty (20).
Three of the six subjects must be core subjects (including English Language, Integrated Science and Mathematics) and three must be in relevant electives.
In addition to the above, candidates must satisfy requirements as indicated below:
In addition to Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science, candidates must pass Social Studies.
B.Ed. (BASIC EDUCATION)
Candidates must have passes in Core Mathematics, Core English and Integrated Science.
In addition, candidates must have passes in three (3) elective subjects selected from category a, b, or c.
- Literature in English, Ghanaian Language (Akan/ Ewe/Ga), Religious Studies, History, French.
- Elective Mathematics, Geography, Economics
- Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
B.Ed.(EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION)
Candidates must pass the following core subjects: Mathematics, English and Integrated Science.
In addition, candidates must have passes in three (3) elective subjects selected from category a, b or c.
- Literature in English, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), Religious Studies, History, French
- Elective Mathematics, Geography, Economics.
- Elective Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
B.Sc. (PSYCHOLOGY)
Candidates must have good passes in the following Core Subject: English, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies.
In addition, candidates must have good passes in three (3) elective subjects with an aggregate of twenty (20) or better in any of the following elective areas: Science, Business or General Arts.
B.Ed. (MANAGEMENT)
Candidates must have good passes in Core English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies.
In addition, candidates must have good passes in three (3) elective subjects under Accounting/Secretarial options; namely Accounting, Business Management, Economics, Clerical Office Duties, Typing and Principles of Costing A good pass in Literature in English will be an advantage.
B.Ed. (PHYSICAL EDUCATION)
Candidates must possess six (6) subjects including Core English, Core Mathematics and Core Science with overall aggregate of twenty (20). Candidates would be subjected to the following practical examinations and assessments.
- Motor Educability Test
- Cardiovascular Endurance Test
- A Selected game
N.B.: Selection of candidates for admission will depend largely on a candidate's performance in the practical examinations.
The date for the practical examinations for B.Ed. (PHYSICAL EDUCATION) candidates would be announced later.
B.Ed. (SOCIAL SCIENCES)
Applicants who wish to pursue any of the underlisted programmes should select B.Ed. (Social Sciences) (Code Number 10 on the scannable form)
B.Ed. (Accounting/Management)
B.Ed. (Accounting/Economics)
B.Ed. (Economics/Management)
B.Ed. (Economics/Geography)
The elective passes should include any three (3) of the following subjects: Economics, Accounting, Geography, History/Government, Business Management, Elective Mathematics, Principles of Costing.
B.Ed. (SOCIAL STUDIES)
Candidates must have passes in Geography and any two (2) of the following elective subjects: Economics, History/Government.
B.Ed. (ARTS)
Applicants who wish to pursue any of the underlisted programmes should select B.Ed. (Arts). (Code Number 9 on the scannable form)
B.Ed. (English/French)
B.Ed. (English/Ghanaian Language)
B.Ed. (English/Religious Studies)
B.Ed. (English/Music)
B.Ed. (English/History)
B.Ed. (French/Ghanaian Language)
B.Ed. (French/Religious Studies)

The elective passes should include any three (3) of the following subjects: Literature in English, French, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), History, Religious Studies and Music.
B.Ed. (MATHEMATICS)
Candidates must have a minimum grade of D in Elective Mathematics. In addition, candidates must have an aggregate of 8 or better in two (2) of the following elective subjects: Economics, Geography, Physics and Chemistry.
B.Ed. (SCIENCE) or B.Ed. (COMPUTER SCIENCE)
Candidates must have obtained aggregate 12 or better in three (3) of the following elective subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
B.Ed. (HOME ECONOMICS)
- Passes in Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science.
- Passes in Management in Living and any two (2) other elective subjects relevant to the preferred option.
For Clothing and Textiles Option, the appropriate electives are: Clothing and Textiles (compulsory), Art, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Economics.
For Foods and Nutrition Option, the appropriate electives are: Foods and Nutrition (compulsory), Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Economics, French and Art.
B.Ed. (HEALTH SCIENCES)
- Candidates must possess GCE 'O' Level credit passes (grade 6 or better) in five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and two Science electives (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). Passes at the GCE 'A' Level will be an advantage.
- SSS candidates with good passes (grade 'D' or better) in Core English, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science and two (2) other Science electives (Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
- In addition, candidates must possess a Three (3) Year Diploma awarded by a Health Training Institution with at least three (3) years working experience (excluding rotation period for nurses) in relevant areas such as, Nursing, Environmental Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Community Health, Midwifery or Psychiatry.
Applicants should include certified copies of their academic transcript showing semester-by-semester GPA and FCGPA.
