Admission Requirements
MATURE CANDIDATES ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS
The University offers admission to Mature Candidates to pursue Arts, Business, Education and Social Sciences Degree Programmes.
- Minimum entry requirements for the Mature Entrance Examinations.
- Age: at least 30 years old by 31st December, 2007.
Mature candidates applying for B. Ed. (Physical Education) should be Twenty- Five (25) years old by 31st December, 2007.
- Applicants seeking admission as Mature Candidates should enclose a photocopy of birth certificate issued to them not less than five (5) years from the day of submission of admission forms.
- Photocopies of all relevant professional/Academic qualifications.
- Age: at least 30 years old by 31st December, 2007.
- An Entrance Examination.
- General Paper (for all candidates)
- Main Papers
- Examination in Mathematics and English Language for candidates who do not have G.C.E. 'O' Level credit passes or SSSCE passes.
- General Paper (for all candidates)
- Interview
Candidates who pass the examination would be ranked and those who fall within the approved quota will be invited for interview.
B.Ed. (PHYSICAL EDUCATION)
Mature candidates who hold Post-Secondary Teacher's Certificate 'A' will be required to write an examination in General Paper and Special Paper. In the Special Paper candidates will answer questions concerning Rules and Regulations of Popular Games/Athletics, Methodology of Teaching PE, and Current Affairs.
Candidates must possess G.C.E. 'O' Level passes in five (5) subjects including credits in English and Mathematics and a pass in a Science subject: Agric Science and Health Science are acceptable.
Candidates would be subjected to the following practical examinations and assessments.
- Motor Educability Test
- Cardiovascular Endurance Test
- A selected game
N.B. Selection of candidates for admission will depend largely on a candidate's performance in the practical examinations.
The date for the practical examinations for B.Ed (Physical Education) candidates would be announced later.
B.Ed. (HOME ECONOMICS)
- Candidates must pass three (3) examination papers: General Paper, Education and a Special Paper in Home Economics (Consisting of a compulsory section: Management in Living, and optional sections in Clothing and Textiles and Foods and Nutrition).
- Candidates who do not have G.C.E. 'O' Level credit passes or SSS passes in Core English and Core Mathematics will be required to take examinations conducted by the University as applicable.
B.Ed. (SCIENCE)
- Paper in three (3) subject areas viz. Physics, Chemistry and either Biology or Mathematics to be taken in the Department of Science Education.
- General Paper in Education
B.Ed. (MATHEMATICS)
- Paper in three (3) subject areas viz: Mathematics combined with either Physics and Chemistry or Economics and Geography to be taken in the Department of Science Education.
- General Paper in Education.
B.Ed. (SOCIAL STUDIES)
- Paper in two (2) subject areas: Economics, Geography or History. (to be taken in the appropriate Faculty).
- Social Studies Education.
B.Ed. (SOCIAL SCIENCES)
- Two (2) papers in two subject areas: Economics, Geography, Accounting and Business Management (to be taken in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Business).
- Social Sciences Education
B.Ed. (ARTS)
- Paper in two (2) subject areas: English Language, Religious Studies, French, History and Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga) (to be taken in Faculty of Arts).
- Arts Education
B.Ed. (MANAGEMENT)
- General Paper.
- A paper in General Education.
- A paper in two (2) business subjects.
B.Sc. (PSYCHOLOGY)
Candidates will be required to answer questions on a General Paper and a Special Paper covering questions in Psychology.
B.Ed. (BASIC EDUCATION)
Candidates will be required to write a paper in:
- Two (2) Subjects in one (1) of the areas specified below:
- English, Religious Studies, History, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), French.
- Geography, Economics, Mathematics.
- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
- English, Religious Studies, History, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), French.
- Basic Education, Methodology.
B.Ed. (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION)
Candidates will be required to write a paper in:
- Two (2) Subjects in one (1) of the areas specified below:
- English, Religious Studies, History, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), French.
- Geography, Economics, Mathematics.
- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
- English, Religious Studies, History, Ghanaian Language (Akan/Ewe/Ga), French.
- Basic Education, Methodology.
