Since the inception of the Department of Primary Education in 1993, its focus has been the pursuit of teaching, learning and research that are aimed at the preparation of professionally oriented teachers, headteachers, supervisors and administrators who would improve the quality of basic education in Ghana. The graduates of the department teach in primary schools and teacher training colleges. The products of these teacher training colleges function in primary and junior secondary schools. This requires that our programme should be extended to cover the junior secondary school programme so as to make our graduates better equipped for work in the teacher training colleges and in the district and regional education offices as supervisors and administrators.
